Learning & Play Areas Fennies at St Augustine’s prides itself in its friendly staff and offers high class childcare. Each room has a fully qualified room leader who leads their team in providing age appropriate stimulating activities which encourage the children to explore their environment.
Every child is allocated a Key Person. The key person communicates with you and your baby/child ensuring their daily routine is followed and their needs are met. At the end of each day we give you feedback, keeping you up to date with all the activities your child has experienced throughout the day. It is this key person who will monitor your child's development closely ensuring activities will enhance their learning and development at their pace.
Parents evenings take place each term for all the children where you have the opportunity to discuss at length the progress your child has made with his/her Key person and the Manager of the nursery.
Babies
For 3-12 month olds and 12-24 month olds. Staff Ratio 1:3 Our spacious baby unit is located in two rooms on the ground floor for children. Fully air-conditioned and filled with bright soft furnishings and wonderful up-to-date resources. The first room is for babies from three months to one year old. The room has bright eye catching displays and large mirrors so the babies can watch themselves as they play. Included in their daily routine are story time, singing, puppets and musical instruments. Each child is encouraged to develop and use their senses by exploring different textures with messy play, sand, water and painting. Opposite is the milk kitchen where babies’ bottles are stored and prepared. This is for use purely by the baby room staff. We have a baby change area in the room next door where nappies are changed. During this time the staff interact by talking or singing to make nappy change an enjoyable experience.
Toddlers
For 2-3 year olds. Staff Ratio 1:4 The toddler unit consists of two rooms which are spacious, with lots of natural light and air conditioning providing a very comfortable environment in the warmer weather. We provide many stimulating activities for your child to join in, including music with instruments, dancing, cooking, painting and messy play. In each room our toddlers are provided with a selection of toys and natural materials to encourage making choices and deciding what they would like to play with. Participation is also nurtured with exciting group activities including singing and story time. The children in toddlers are observed by three key workers and activities are planned daily to follow the child's individual interest. Each toddler has their own tray where their artwork goes, or any other material they have collected or produced throughout their busy days.
Pre-School
For 3-5 year olds. Staff Ratio 1:8 The first floor is the pre-school unit which has two rooms that operate as free flowing so the children can access all areas throughout the day. The main room is the playroom where there is a writing area so the children have access to pens, pencils, scissors, rulers and paper at all times. There is a quiet book area for children who wish to relax and read a story or do a puzzle. Children are encouraged to self select equipment which interests them and the role of the staff member is to support and enhance this play. Activities are planned on a daily basis based on the previous day's experiences. The children help staff evaluate the day's activities by suggesting ideas.
Outside Play & Learning
We have an outside area which is a soft play area. As well as having bikes and scooters, the garden has chalk boards, a large train where we go on all sorts of adventures and a picnic table and other visual aids. There is a daily garden planner so the garden is set out with different activities daily including, books, mark making and role play opportunities. All this helps to aid in your child's time with us being a fun experience.
