Learning & Play Areas

Fennies at Christchurch prides itself in its friendly staff and offers high class childcare. Each room has a fully qualified room leader who leads their team in providing age appropriate stimulating activities which encourage the children to explore their environment.

Every child is allocated a Key Person. The key person communicates with you and your baby/child ensuring their daily routine is followed and their needs are met. At the end of each day we give you feedback, keeping you up to date with all the activities your child has experienced throughout the day. It is this key person who will monitor your child's development closely ensuring activities will enhance their learning and development at their pace.

Parents evenings take place each term for all the children where you have the opportunity to discuss at length the progress your child has made with his/her Key person and the Manager of the nursery.

Babies

For 3-12 month olds and 12-24 month olds. Staff Ratio 1:3
We have three baby rooms for children aged between three months and two years which are spacious and fully air conditioned. They are filled with bright soft furnishings and wonderful up-to-date resources. Included in their daily routines are story time, singing, puppets and musical instruments. Every child is encouraged to develop and use their senses by exploring different textures with messy play, sand, water and painting.

Toddlers

For 2-3 year olds. Staff Ratio 1:4
The toddler unit is on the mezzanine floor and is very spacious, with lots of natural light and air conditioning, providing a very comfortable environment in the warmer weather. We provide many stimulating activities for your child to join in with, including music (with instruments), dancing, cooking, painting and messy play. Our toddlers are provided with a selection toys and natural materials to encourage making choices and deciding what they would like to play with; participation is also nurtured with exciting group activities, including singing and story time.

Pre-School

For 3-5 year olds. Staff Ratio 1:8
One of our principal aims for Preschool children is to ensure they receive high quality care and early education in accordance with the principles from the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This is delivered in our large and centralised preschool room. This is a fantastic space with areas for Writing-so the children have access to pens, pencils, scissors, rulers and paper at all times; Reading- there is a quiet book area for children who wish to relax and read a story or do a puzzle; Role Play- we regularly get the children involved in creating various themes such as ‘Shop’ ‘Home Corner’ Pirate Ship’ and ‘Clinic’ and Messy Play- where the children have access to sand, water, dough and paints. We provide a balanced provision of adult supported and play experiences within rich stimulating indoor and outdoor environments.

Outside Play & Learning

Our planned activities are based for both inside and outside play, as we fully value the importance of outdoor play. Children are encouraged to develop their physical skills by providing them with a garden stocked with scooters, bikes and push along toys, as well as learning boards. We regularly visit the local park, shops and library to make the most of the community area around Christchurch Road.

Meal Times

The nursery provides a varied and nutritionally balanced diet all cooked freshly every day by our fully trained Chef. Menus are revised every term with added seasonal vegetables and fruit available to the children. At Christchurch, we have an award for our variety menus and excellent hygiene. We also provide food cooked from our premises to another two branches of Fennies. Children attending a full day at our nursery will enjoy breakfast, morning and afternoon snack, a hot lunch with pudding and a light tea. Children in pre-school and toddlers participate with great enthusiasm to help cook their own tea, such as pizzas, cakes, salad and soups as part of their cooking curriculum. In addition to milk or water at mealtimes, drinking water is always available throughout the day.
